How will you spend your $3.25 Xtra refund?
As an Xtra customer, I'm one of those in for that $3.25 'Good News' refund. I spent one of the outage days working from home, so perhaps the boss could accrue my refund over those 8 hours, which works out to 80 cents an hour in return for my lost online toil. But there I go again dwelling on the negative. When my $3.25 does come through, I fully intend hooking up with another refunded customer, then pooling our resources to buy a subway sandwich. I'm joking of course, as two-refund cheques won't in fact stretch to a full-size Turkey, Ham & Bacon Melt.
How will you spend your refund? Do you think Xtra should give a full-month refund? Leave your comments below and be in to win a copy of The Aviator, 2 disc DVD widescreen edition from our friends at Roadshow.

Well guys, if you wait a couple more weeks I think you'll be able to buy one whole Telecom share.

I want to give it back to Telecom to help pay for 1 second of Theresa Gattung's salary

Apparently the kick in arse Telecom got from being forced to unbundle didn't quite sink in. This paltry attempt at compensation is nothing short of a slap in the face. How Telecom's Xtra service manages to stay in business at all is a mystery to me. If it wasn't for their deceptive advertising and business practices, I doubt they'd have a customer base at all. They survive only on the ignorance of their subscribers who don't realise that they do have a choice and don't have to put up with crap like this.

I dont use Xtra Broadband, but I use sky digital, and from what i've seen and heard, we're treated better by sky tv, even if they work together with xtra (dvdunlimited.co.nz)...
If we got $2.50 from sky for their 12hour cut off earlier this year....couldnt xtra do the same..$2.50 every 12 hours? Sky set a precedent...they refunded soemthing they didnt have to (i didnt even expect a refund until i read it in the pape!)...who cares if telecom lost 2 billion in share values...they'll lose even more if they dont sasify their customers....
Save them and make them happy now before the competition comes in (goverment enforced regulation)

Maybe we should all donate it, $3.25 multiplied by the thousands due for a "refund" would be a welcome boost for a struggling charity.
We know that they cannot guarantee that nothing will interrupt their service. But introducing a realistic charter fee, if the fault is theirs and supply is unavailable for a certain length of time, would be a good start towards looking after their customers.

Heh, I'll use my refund to pay for approximately 3 bottles of 1.5l Mountain Dew (on special at my local Foodtown), to keep me awake all night while I catch up on the work I missed. Having said that, I changed my DNS pretty quick, so maybe they won't give me the full amount.

What will I do with my $3.25? Maybe buy a house in either Gore. Or Westport...

This is a problem, (decisions, decisions), that kept me up worrying about it last night. Here is my conclusion. The miserable $3.25 is not only an insult to Xtra's customers but and insult to your intelligence as well. :badpc:
I have no doubt Xtra would like to refund the whole month but the poor buggers can't afford it!! After all, they have seen $millions wiped off their share price recently.
So please, please join me and help try to save this near endangered species, and give their lousy refund back to them. :help:

I will use it to pay off posting this comment as $3.25 is probably what it will cost to make this post. $2 for the internet connection and at least $1.25 for the frustration endured.

I'd buy that Time Machine from TradeMe and go back in time to 1902 when $3.25 was worth something. We don't even have 5 cent pieces anymore! They could have made it at least $3.30...

Of course they should refund everyone properly, but of course they won't do that voluntarily.
I'd say you have a fair chance though if you phone in specifically and kick up enough fuss. I'm currently getting a full refund on my broadband each month because of the permanent rubbish speed problem my are has since the speed "increases".

I can add it to my $2.50 from Sky and treat myself to a couple of minutes on my mobile phone. It's an insult really.

I'll tell them what to do with their $3.25 refund. They can stick it up their *****. What a disgrace

If they provided some form of service level agreement they should, but as they dont the have no obligation to refund anything. But 3 bucks is an insult to their users. Wont even buy me a cup off coffee in the morning!
Posted by: Rob | May 19, 2006 11:16 AM
it's just an insult a bit like the 'promised' tax cuts of $0.60c per week the govt was gonna give out...laughable.....

Since I managed to stay online by using another ISP's DNS, I should really forward the money to them :-)
Posted by: PaulD | May 19, 2006 11:12 AM
Xtra internet is a "best effort" service, meaning they don't have to be reliable.
If they actually guarenteed their service, people & businesses would be able to seek compensation for any costs directly related to the outage.
$3.25 is a joke, but they aren't going to pay out more than they have to. They weren't going to give customers any credit until the commerce commission said they should.
Are they going to refund the cost of pay by the hour dialup that people had to use during the outage? They will probably come up with some lame excuse not to.

Heh, when was the last time Telecom gave a refund to its customers? Quite laughable...
Posted by: Tony Lee | May 19, 2006 10:49 AM
Telecoms refund is just a ploy to try to give us that "feel good" feeling and therefore hopefully the result will be we will pay a little more for their shares.
Posted by: Arnold Mason | May 19, 2006 10:46 AM
I will use it to pay some off some of the still high charges for Broadband.
