Theresa Gattung resigns
The easy part is counting Theresa's crimes. Among them badly misjudging Helen Clark and David Cunliffe's resolve; being so fast to push more people onto today's creaky broadband network (hello, Xtraordinaries!) but achingly slow to introduce ADSL2+; and throwing good money money after bad in Australia.
But now comes the harder, less fathomable part. Who will replace Theresa?
There is no heir apparant (and it is definitely curious, and very sudden-seeming, that she would resign before the hunt for a successor had even begun). What direction will the new CEO head? Will ADSL2+ finally get rolled out? Will they decide that it will be in investors' and customers' (as well as the Commerce Commission's) best interests to genuinely split the company into totally separate wholesale and retail entities? Will they slash mobile broadband pricing and roll out VoIP? What do you want to see, and who would you like to see as the new CEO?
Personally I'd like to see someone who eats their own dog food. If you love using broadband internet, then you wouldn't let things languish.

Does her resignation give me hope that telecom will change its attitude? Not a chance. The company drips with greed and deceit.

The Board is only interested in getting maximum $$ returns in investors pockets.
The CEO decides the best direction to move in (to a large extent)in order to have maximum returns.
Theresa has definitely raked in billions for the Telecom empire for the last 7 years or so.
However she was short sighted for long term growth of Telecom and failed to forsee the eventual reaction of the New Zealand public and NZ Govt to split up Telecom.
For long term growth of Telecom, Theresa has done a pathetic job. She has departed smartly right at the point where Telecoms image to everyday NZrs is one of Greed/Pathetic Service and Ripping Off everybody it can.
And also smartly avoided the difficult task of splitting Telecom into diff entities and still make hundreads of millions in profits
Any intelligent CEO will envisage long term consequences of a company's actions and value its customers loyalty and listen to what they really want.
I dont think i will ever be able to see Telecom as genuinely interested in providing quality service of any kind without ripping off. And i am sure many New Zealanders feel the same way about Telecom.
Its these kind of legacys that CEO's leave behind that cause eventual downfall of the entire empires'. Theresa has definitely done a good job here!
Hope she doesnt get another Job locally!!

"Go large" herself has finally called it quits on her $8,000 per day salary.
The drinks are on me!!
She leaves a legacy of pure
ignorance and arogance of the highest order.
Advertisments that patently lie and make you want to vomit.A copper telephone network that is on is last legs from NIL investment and OAP (old age pensioner) investers whom will more than likely than not,be spending up large on holiday in the Bahamas right now.
The sad reality is that this selfishness continues with denying those whom identify with P2P applications being throttled to hell and back [restricted].This is a clear breach of Freedom Of Association and Expression under the Bill Of Rights.
The new Telecom CEO should be paid 1 million max with up to a $500,000 per year bonus based on network performance and average speed per customer.Perhaps this will kick start some much needed bulk investment in nationwide Fibre Optic capacity in high density areas.
This year will see some improvement with VDSL2 from Orcon, but this will only serve as an interim option because the copper wire network in N.Z is sub-standard and cannot cope with being run on steriods.
When Fibre capacity reaches high penetration in this country you can kiss goodbye to the Bullshit of the past...then and only then will N.Z ascend the OECD Broadband rankings.
Bye Bye Theresa.

In asking the question "what direction will the new CEO head", you are responding to the wrong event. The direction in which the any CEO will head is dictated by The Board of Telecom, not by the CEO.
In asking "who would you like to see as the new CEO" the ideal answer would be.... Theresa Gattung ! She loyally and dilligently carried out The Board of Telecom's dodgy policies, and carried the can for the lot. She will be a hard act to follow. Respect to her.
What Telecom really needs is a new board which lays down clean, ethical and customer-focused policies for the CEO to follow. Then they might get away from the unenviable reputation which Telecom has acquired for itself.
