Insane in the mainframe

rockdotrock.jpg

Symantec execs must have been on the gin and juice when they let their marketing posse put together 'adverband' RockdotRock. The band was assembled "for the express purpose of spreading awareness of a brand through the majesty of Rock 'n' Roll," says Symantec.

The PC World crew are down with the Symantec massive, but we just don't know if hair metal was the right way to go for a track like "Non-Traditional Two Factor Authentication".

Symantec might do better teaming up with MC Frontalot, godfather of nerdcore, the hiphop sub-genre that takes droppin' science literally.

With Weird Al's "White and Nerdy" a hit, and documentaries 'Nerdcore Rising' and 'Nerdcore for Life' set for release, geeksta rap is the only way to shout about secure encryption algorithms. Step up, Symantec, and come correct.

PV vs Mac... with a twist

mac-pc.jpg

Even the wierdest Windows evangelists have to admit that Apple's Mac vs PC advertisements are pretty good (here are three new ones).

But we're all balanced journalists around here, so we were pleased to see this Mac user point out a few of his frustrations.

Jackson vs New Line

Head of New Line cinema Robert Shaye has laid into our precious Peter Jackson, saying that the studio won't ever work with Jackson on The Hobbit, or on any other film, ever -- at least, not while Shaye is in charge. Although from the sounds of the interview, angry-man Shaye might keel over from a stress-induced heart attack any minute.

Go, go, gadget kids

simple_electric_7.jpg
I have my doubts about whether Inspector Gadget still shows on TV (although, brilliantly, it is on You Tube), but even if your cries of "go, go gadget... stuff" fall on deaf ears, TechEBlog's collection of seven cool gadgets you can make at home are a great distraction for any kids who are driving you crazy these school holidays. (They're quite fun for bored grown-ups, too.)
