Our kind of bouquet

ipodshuffle20070130.jpg

Apple's 1GB iPod Shuffle now comes in colour: pink, green, orange or blue, as well as the original anodized aluminium.

If you or your loved one buy into the whole Valentine's Day thing, or if you've been particularly naughty lately, at $149 the Shuffle is actually about the same price as a bunch of roses (lasts longer, too). Laser engraving is free if you buy from Apple direct.

Of course, nothing beats the eternal romance of a lovingly selected e-card -- meish.org and youyesyou.net have the right words for every occasion.

Terabyte drives, coming soon

hitachi-1TB-hard-drive-jan20.jpg

Hitachi has announced that it will be releasing a terabyte hard drive in the first quarter of this year. That's soon, folks, and that's a lot of space. About 330,000 3MB photos or 250,000 MP3s, in fact.

Although Press F1er CYaBro raises a good point: "What do you use for a backup of 1TB of data?"

DVD hybrids to launch?

With the high-def DVD format war still raging between Blu-ray and HD-DVD factions, the launch of two hybrid solutions could come as sweet relief to indecisive early adopters.

The on-again, off-again dual-format DVD player from South Korean firm LG is on again, the BBC announced today. LG's hybrid will play both Sony's Blu-ray and Toshiba's HD-DVD discs, and is said to go on display at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas on Monday.

The player will launch at the same time as Warner Bros' hybrid double-sided HD-DVD/Blu-ray disc, also on display at CES, says the BBC.

When these solutions will actually go on sale to NZ consumers (and if so, how much they will cost) is still anyone's guess.

UPDATE: The dual-format player was officially launched on Monday 8 January. You read it here first...
