The lads over at DailyTech have managed to get their hands on a sample of ATI’s upcoming Radeon HD 2900XTX video card. This card represents the cream of ATI’s graphics line up and comes equipped with 1GB of GDDR4 video memory and measures a staggering 30cm long and is pitted head to head with Nvidia’s 8800GTX.

DailyTech gave it a good going over and were more than a little disappointed with the results as the 8800GTX out classed it in all tests. Turns out the 8800GTX was a factory over clocked model, but generally speaking we find the performance differences between stock units and factory over clocked units aren’t that great as card manufacturers tend to err on the conservative side. Given the fact the 2900TX actually sports more memory, faster core clock speed and faster RAM than even the over clocked 8800 you’d expect the Radeon to beat it at least once somewhere along the line.

Check out their benchmark scores here then let the ATI/Nvidia fanboy flame war roll.

hi, i'm not the most educated when it comes to computers and have been so far a nvidia fan (since having a tonne of problems with ati's early catalysts) but personally think the radeon xt (not xtx but being called that) is a better card but am having trouble finding fair reviews or even reviews with the vista os for the use of directx10. is it possible that directx10 could be the difference between the xtx whooping ass or not? also i see alot of benchmarks of the xtx being tested versus 2 ultras, and also tests being done on boards built for nvidia eg. striker, it would be nice to see those same test done on the commando or any other crossfire certified board. also some of the biggest margins i see between the two cards is when benchmarks are done on games specifically built to compliment sli, please correct me if any of my understandings are wrong. thank you

that card is an oem version not the retail version also that 12.5 has been dropped due to massive power usage and its to long ati knew there was a problem with the card and that why they didnt hand them out dailytech was just lucky to get hold of the one thats been flaoting about for months so stop printing stupid stories ,dont u find it funny why only dailytech done benches??? exactly no one yet outside amd had seen the retail xtx which will without a doubt smahe the gtx and the gtx ultra gooday

hey there it was a bad batch of cards ,what u actually think the xt is faster than the xtx i think not there is a problem with the gddr4 xtx so please dont post these stories because ur gonna make everyone think the xtx isnt a contender when it is you only have to look at the specs to see its a monster ,if the problem wasnt with the xtx gddr4 it would of smashed the xt and the gtx, i cant believe evryone is gettin sucked in by this dailytech is probaly lying why are they the onlyones with the xtx?? something doesnt add up but theres no need for you to jump on the bandwagon, good day to you
