A couple of days ago the US Patent Office granted Apple a patent on a rectangle with rounded corners. Check out US D670,286 for a ”Portable Display Device„.

You'll note from the legend below the drawings that ”The broken lines in the Figures show portions of the portable display device which form no part of the claimed design,„ so essentially they've patented a rectangle.

You may also note that this amazing technological breakthrough is the work of no less than 15 people, including the late Steve Jobs.
